A Letter to Florizel from Perdita Written for the July Year 3 topic of "Ageing or Marriage"

A letter to…

Dear Florizel,

Maybe you will read this letter and wish
that you had woken with me
looked out into the winter garden
caught your breath at the silver trees
that had grown in the night.
And want to praise with me
the fur of frost burning branches
And want to feel with me
the shiver of twigs
And want to hear with me
the song of the rime.

I knew this silvery morning
that if I kept very still
watched the wintriness
I might even glimpse the shine of a unicorn if it ventures
under cover of hoar frost
to the boundary of the wood.
But I could only spare the time until
I had to leave to meet you
to listen to your winter’s tales
of sprites and orc and goblins.

With love,
Perdita

PS Maybe I will even send this letter one day.
