Spring Cleaning
Written for the April Year 3 topic of
"Spring"
If you looked out of Wendy’s window this March morning
you would see two writers scribbling in the sun.
The only tension is that one writes purposefully
and her words spill easily onto the starched pages,
while the other, caught between being and un-being,
drifts between thought and tired jottings
left over from Winter.
In this garden there are celandines, polished gold,
violets, clean faced, and primroses, tidy petalled;
all telling tales about the sun.
Magnolia buds are poised to whitewash the view from the bedroom window.
Spring inspires surreptiously:
Turn to face the sun
Absorb the warmth
Learn to co-exist and
Blossom.
Unseen birds sing in the shrubbery
Unseen children laugh excitedly hidden beyond the leaves
Underground the moles are stirring
Motes of dust in a shaft of sunlight…
Bother! Where there is Spring there is also spring-cleaning!
